Fuerteventura Avanza calls for changes to Puerto del Rosario rent support rules

The party says Puerto del Rosario’s 2026 rent support rules still exclude repeat applicants and wants the waiting period removed.

Fuerteventura Avanza has called for changes to Puerto del Rosario’s 2026 rent support rules. The party says a ban on repeat claims could leave households in need without help in back-to-back years.

In a statement, the party accused the Coalición Canaria and PSOE council government of failing to act on an agreement. The council approved the agreement in October 2025, with all members voting in favour. Party spokesperson Peña Armas wants an immediate change to the rules on who can apply.

What is being challenged?

The party says the October 2025 motion sought to remove a rule that barred some repeat applicants. Under that rule, people could not apply if they had received rent support in either of the previous two years. The party says this ruled out more than 230 families.

It also says housing councillor Fernández Aragón accepted at that meeting that the rule was too strict and promised to address it.

The party argues that the 2026 rules cut the waiting period to one year rather than remove it. It warns that families who receive support in 2026 would therefore be unable to apply in 2027. This is the party’s reading of the rule, not a confirmed announcement of who can apply next year.

Armas criticised the government led by David de Vera. She argued that a household’s need for financial help does not disappear from one year to the next.

Fuerteventura Avanza wants the council to remove any waiting period linked to past receipt of rent support. The information provided includes no council response to this demand. It also does not confirm that the rules have changed.
