Fuerteventura Avanza denounces Marlape situation, accuses mayor of abandonment in Playa Blanca

The political formation Fuerteventura Avanza has publicly denounced the conditions it says prevail in the Marlape urbanisation, located in the Playa Blanca area, and has accused the municipal governing group of inaction regarding occupation and insecurity problems.

According to the organization, what began as a conflict over illegal occupations has turned into a neighbourhood tension hotspot. In its statement, the formation refers to a carnival celebration held in the area and to an alleged assault on two young people inside an occupied house—events that, in its view, demonstrate a deterioration of coexistence.

“We have been reporting incidents such as vehicle arson and a rise in insecurity for months,” said Peña Armas, spokesperson for Fuerteventura Avanza. “The mayor publicly announced the demolition of the building before 31 December, a commitment that has not been fulfilled.”

The party argues that the issue has moved beyond a mere occupation problem to become a matter of public safety. It is demanding a clear and public action plan and greater coordination with the Police and other security forces.

Fuerteventura Avanza calls for immediate measures and political accountability for the handling of the case, insisting that residents of the area deserve guarantees of safety and peaceful coexistence.
