‘Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature’ crews join planting campaign

The goal is to cover more than 700,000 m² of cultivated land and sow 6,000 kg of wheat.

The Cabildo, through the Service of Works and Machinery and in coordination with the Environmental Service, the Tuineje City Council, the hunters’ collective and the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” programme, is carrying out an intensive operation with its agricultural tractors across the ravines (gavías) and fields of Tuineje. This exhaustive effort responds to the Cabildo’s sowing campaign and to landowners’ requests to prepare their plots and repair trastones (soil pits).

“These intense and concentrated actions in a specific geographic area are very effective and timely to have the cultivated lands in optimal condition, available and prepared,” said Blas Acosta, Councillor for Works and Machinery.

The current sowing campaign aims to:

  • Cover more than 700,000 m² of cultivated terrain.
  • Sow 6,000 kg of wheat.

The crews of “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature,” a programme commissioned by Works and Machinery to its own entity Gesplan, mainly provide support during the wheat‑sowing phase for agro‑environmental and game‑management purposes across various ravines and agricultural lands in the municipality of Tuineje.

Before sowing, agricultural tractors and staff from the Service of Works and Machinery and the Environmental Service of the Cabildo, together with the Tuineje City Council, have been deployed on the fields to prepare the soil and repair the trastones, ensuring the ravines retain rainwater effectively.
