Fuerteventura Cabildo Successfully Completes “Cabildo Acts” Employment Plan During School Quarantine

Project Overview

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has successfully concluded the Employment Plan “The Cabildo Acts”, a twelve‑month initiative that upgraded the facilities of forty educational centers across the island while facilitating the employment of 37 previously unemployed individuals.

The programme focused on minor works, conditioning and rehabilitation of school infrastructure, responding directly to the needs expressed by the schools themselves. Key interventions included:

  • Waterproofing and roof repairs
  • Painting and general conditioning of facilities
  • Improvement of walls and façades
  • Installation of fences and ramps to enhance accessibility

Achievements and Impact

The island corporation rates the plan very positively, noting that it has proven to be an effective tool for generating jobs, improving educational infrastructure, and directly addressing the demands of the education system. The success reinforces the Cabildo’s commitment to education and social welfare in Fuerteventura.

Official Statements

“We are proud of everything that has been accomplished. This work has been highlighted by management teams, teachers, students and families,” said Lola García, President of the Cabildo, during the closing ceremony.

“The ‘Cabildo Acts’ plan has been a complete success thanks to the great effort of all the workers, and we intend to repeat the experience,” stated Nuria Cabrera, Councillor for Employment Promotion.

“Collaboration with the municipalities and coordination with the Education departments of the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands have been key to the programme’s smooth development,” Cabrera added.

Adargoma Hernández, Councillor for Education, praised the initiative as a model of coordination between Employment Promotion and Education within the island corporation, highlighting its positive impact on both schools and the broader educational community.

Future Plans

Councillor Nuria Cabrera announced the intention to continue the project with a new edition next year. The next edition aims to replicate the successes achieved and further strengthen the partnership between local municipalities, the Cabildo’s education sector, and the Canary Islands government.

The closing ceremony also welcomed the local councillors for Local Development and Employment from Puerto del Rosario (Érica García) and Pájara (Lucía Darriba), as well as Carlos Rodríguez, Councillor for the Environment, and opposition councillor Sonia Álamo (NC‑FAC).
