Fuerteventura Confirms 85% Occupancy This Summer at Berlin ITB
The Tourism Board launches its professional agenda at ITB Berlin with a dozen meetings with international operators, while the island faces a decline in regular air seats from Germany due to fleet renewal.
Press Release
Fuerteventura is taking part in the 2026 ITB Berlin with a delegation led by the Tourism Board and joined by representatives from the municipalities of Pájara and La Oliva, as well as local industry entrepreneurs. On the first day of the fair, international operators confirmed an average occupancy forecast of 85 % for the island this summer.
Official Statement
“The strategy we have launched from the Tourism Board to grow in quality—targeting tourists who value sustainability—also involves updating our destination’s image in traditional markets and offering products with a genuine Majorero seal,” said Marlene Figueroa, Tourism Councillor of the Fuerteventura Island Council.
“We need a new type of visitor who demands original goods and services produced by island residents, thereby boosting local economies that have so far been less involved in the sector,” Figueroa added.
Business Agenda
During the fair, the delegation held meetings with a range of operators, including:
- Jet2.com
- Jet2holidays
- Granicus
- Thalasso No 1
- Itaka
- Minube
- eDreams
- Travel Marketing
- LegendsTour
These discussions examined the economic and business contexts of the source markets.
Market Outlook
The press release highlighted a key challenge: the aircraft fleet renewal process is slowing the replacement of planes, which in turn reduces the number of seats available from Germany.
Airlines project a 6 % reduction in regular seat capacity to Fuerteventura this summer, compared with an 8.6 % drop for the entire Canary Islands.
The shortfall from Germany is expected to be offset by growth from other markets:
- United Kingdom: +3.3 % (18,337 additional seats versus summer 2025)
- France: +2.5 % (1,041 additional seats)
- Luxembourg: +35.1 % (3,195 additional seats)
Germany remains, alongside the United Kingdom, one of the island’s principal source markets. In 2025, 784,752 German passengers visited Fuerteventura. Regular flights currently operate from Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich and Cologne.
