Fuerteventura Council Allocates Over €4 Million to Support NGOs and Community Groups

The Island Council of Fuerteventura is strengthening its commitment to the island’s social fabric by earmarking a total of €4.2 million for associations and collectives that provide essential services to vulnerable people.

Following an initial round of agreements signed in June, a new batch of contracts was formalised on Wednesday with around twenty social organisations, amounting to €1.7 million in total. The signing ceremony was attended by the island’s president, Lola García, and the Councillor for Social Action, Víctor Alonso.

“It is essential to back the services provided by third‑sector associations, as they reach places where the administration cannot always go. We have aimed to streamline the processing of these agreements to guarantee the population’s well‑being and reinforce assistance to those who need it most,” said President Lola García.

“The enormous work carried out by these entities across the island—supporting the elderly, people with functional diversity, mental health, and families facing difficulties—demonstrates that this financial aid is not an expense but an investment in dignity and social justice,” emphasized Councillor Víctor Alonso.

The newly signed agreements will enable the development of programmes focused on health, personal autonomy, inclusion, and quality‑of‑life improvements, thereby consolidating a social support network that contributes to the well‑being and cohesion of Majorera society.
