Fuerteventura Council Promotes Suicide Prevention and Emotional Well‑Being Initiatives
From October 13‑16, the island will host talks and workshops to promote mental health among youth and the general public
The Cabildo, through its Education and Youth department, continues its work on suicide prevention and the promotion of emotional well‑being among young people. To this end, it is launching a series of awareness days that will travel across the island’s municipalities with talks and workshops.
During four days, the “Talk Saves Lives” program will feature psychologists, therapists and artists who will address topics such as emotional management, self‑esteem and the use of art as a therapeutic tool in schools throughout the archipelago.
Therapeutic sound workshops will also be offered to the public, with prior registration by calling 689 882 760. The sessions are scheduled for:
- October 13 – Insular Youth Center, Puerto del Rosario
- October 16 – Cultural Association Raíz del Pueblo, La Oliva
The project is funded by the Government of the Canary Islands and forms part of the Education and Youth department’s actions aimed at emotional well‑being.
For Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, and Candelaria Delgado, Canary Islands Youth Councilor, promoting preventive actions for mental health is essential. Their goal is to raise awareness among students, teachers and the general population about the importance of mental health and suicide prevention, while building support networks among mental‑health professionals, artists and educational institutions.
“A comprehensive approach, as explained by the island’s Youth Councilor Adargoma Hernández, is essential to effectively tackle the mental‑health crisis affecting our society.”
