Fuerteventura Council reviews first year of Childhood and Adolescence Plan, reports positive results
The Fuerteventura Island Council continues to advance the implementation of the Island Plan for Children and Adolescents, after conducting a monitoring of the first year of execution with a positive balance by the Internal Commission for Children and Adolescents.
The plan, driven by the Island Children Service and dependent on the Ministry of Social Action, Diversity, LGTBIQ+, Citizen Participation and Open Government, which is headed by Víctor Alonso, involves various departments of the Council and the Island Council for Children and Adolescents.
On March 27 a working meeting was held to analyze the progress achieved to date, as well as the actions underway within the Island Council. During the meeting, key aspects such as data collection on the plan’s implementation and strengthening coordination between departments for the development of new initiatives were addressed.
One of the set objectives is to have updated and complete information before next June, when a monitoring report must be sent to UNICEF on the degree of implementation of the plan on the island.
“These actions allow us to boost the active participation of children and adolescents, fostering their protagonism in building a more inclusive society committed to their rights,” said councilor Víctor Alonso.
Active Participation of Boys and Girls
Coinciding with this meeting, a new session of the Island Council for Children and Adolescents was also held, bringing together child representatives from the various municipalities of Fuerteventura.
This body, convened monthly, addresses issues related to children’s rights in line with initiatives promoted by UNICEF. On this occasion, the session included sports activities and traditional games within the program “Do Not Forget Our Heritage,” in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports.
According to Víctor Alonso, the initiative seeks to value the cultural heritage of the archipelago and promote the right to play, creating meeting spaces and participation among the youngest.
