Fuerteventura Health Authority pushes emotional wellbeing training for all staff
The Health Area of Fuerteventura, attached to the Canary Islands Government’s Health Department, launched a pioneering training program this October aimed at the emotional well‑being of both clinical and non‑clinical staff across the island’s four Basic Health Zones (ZBS).
Driven by the Primary Care Psychology team—comprising five clinical psychologists—the initiative seeks to provide self‑care strategies that help maintain a healthy emotional balance and strengthen the mental health of first‑level care teams. It also aims to foster participation and collective learning among the various professional profiles.
The training consists of a six‑session cycle focused on practical tools for emotional health, promoting self‑care, stress and anxiety management, and preventing professional burnout caused by caregiving duties.
After its kickoff in Gran Tarajal on 6 October, the program will continue in the following health centers:
- Puerto del Rosario (Puerto I and Puerto II) – 20 October and 3 November
- Antigua – 10 November
- Corralejo – 17 November
- Morro Jable – 1 December
Thus, all ZBS on the island will be covered.
The Primary Care Psychology service emphasizes that promoting emotional well‑being is essential not only for patients but also for the multidisciplinary teams that sustain the health system.
“Caring for those who care is essential to guarantee more close, effective, and humane care,” the service leaders state.
“We want to provide every professional with emotional self‑management tools that allow them to channel daily tension healthily and reinforce their personal and professional well‑being.”
The activity enjoys the full backing of the Fuerteventura Health Area, which supports the rollout of these trainings in every island health center as part of its commitment to the comprehensive health of both the population and health professionals, within the framework of the Canary Health Service Humanisation Strategy.
