Fuerteventura Hospital to Receive Two New Ultrasound Machines

Health Department Awards €3 Million Contract for 37 Ultrasound Units

The Canary Islands Health Department, through the General Directorate of Economic Resources of the Canary Health Service (SCS), has awarded a contract worth €3,024,852.50 for the supply, installation, commissioning, and warranty‑period maintenance of 37 ultrasound machines for various SCS hospitals.

  • The purchase is co‑financed by the European Union via the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) under the Canary FEDER 2021‑2027 Programme and the investment project 256G0169 “Radiology Equipment.”
  • The tender, launched in November 2025 with a baseline budget of €3,119,870, was divided into seven lots, allowing the equipment to be tailored to the clinical and functional needs of different hospital services while achieving a lower final price.
  • Four companies won the open‑procedure contract, and the machines will be distributed across multiple specialties and hospitals.

Allocation by Specialty

  • 8 units – Gynecology, Obstetrics and Assisted Human Reproduction
  • 13 units – Special needs linked to In‑Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
  • 8 units – Radiodiagnostics
  • 3 units – Pediatric Intensive Care
  • 2 units – Adult Cardiology
  • 2 units – Pediatric Cardiology
  • 1 unit – General Intensive Care

Allocation by Hospital

  • Insular‑Materno Infantil University Hospital Complex – 14 units (largest share)
  • University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria – 8 units
  • University Hospital of the Canary Islands – 7 units
  • University Hospital Doctor Negrín (Gran Canaria), General Hospital of Fuerteventura, and University Hospital of La Palma – 2 units each
  • Hospitals of La Gomera and El Hierro – 1 unit each

The contract stipulates that delivery, installation, and commissioning must be completed within five months of signing. Each ultrasound machine will carry a warranty of three to five and a half years, covering maintenance throughout that period.

“With this acquisition, the Canary Health Service strengthens the technological capacity of its hospitals, improves diagnostic capabilities and the quality of care, and promotes equitable access to advanced medical resources across the archipelago,” the regional Health Department noted in its press release.

The new equipment will enhance the diagnostic arsenal of Fuerteventura’s hospital and other facilities throughout the Canary Islands, contributing to a modernised and more efficient health system.
