Fuerteventura left out of fuel rebate in the year's final quarter

The Government of the Canary Islands has issued an order designating the non‑capital islands that will receive the extraordinary, temporary fuel‑price subsidy from 1 October to 31 December 2025. This time, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are excluded from the aid because their average prices are below those recorded in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

According to official data, the average price of G95 gasoline and GOA diesel during July, August and the first half of September was €1.18 in Gran Canaria and Tenerife. By contrast, Fuerteventura posted an average price of €1.16, while Lanzarote’s average was €1.14—both figures lower than the capital islands’ average.

Because of this, the regional government will not apply the subsidy on these islands in the last quarter of the year.

In contrast, La Gomera and El Hierro will continue to receive fuel subsidies of 20 cents and 25 cents per litre, respectively, as their prices reached €1.36 and €1.42, well above the average. La Palma also retains the previously authorized 20‑cent per litre bonus as a measure to support its economic recovery.

“This measure is reviewed each quarter based on actual prices and aims to balance the costs borne by citizens of the non‑capital islands compared with those of the capital islands,” said Finance and European Union Relations Minister Matilde Asián.

The decision means that residents and visitors to Fuerteventura will not benefit from the price reduction in the final stretch of the year, as the island—along with Lanzarote—finds itself in a more favorable fuel‑price scenario.
