Fuerteventura pole athletes head to Seoul for World Pole Art Championship

Young athletes from Fuerteventura will represent Spain in Seoul from 11 to 14 November after qualifying at the national championship.

Young pole athletes from Fuerteventura have set off for Seoul to represent Spain at the World Pole Art Championship, which takes place from 11 to 14 November.

Six athletes were named as having left Fuerteventura airport early on Sunday 8 November: Luna, Jimena, Adriana, Lucía, Sofía and Cathaysa. They were accompanied by their coach, Laura García González, and are members of the Asociación Canaria de Pole Sport y Disciplinas Aéreas. The same report also refers to five young competitors, leaving the size of the travelling group unclear.

Qualification in Salamanca

The island athletes qualified for the world championship through their results at the Spanish championship in Salamanca, where they won four gold medals and one silver. They qualified in the Junior A Amateur, Junior A Competitive, Junior B Competitive and Junior Mix Doubles categories.

García González said the Seoul competition would bring together qualified athletes from different countries, with a maximum of three representatives per country in each category.

The Fuerteventura school was recognised as Best School at the 2026 Spanish championship for its participants’ combined score. García González also received the Best Coach award.

Pole sport in Fuerteventura

García González began working in sport on the island in 2012 and founded Club Deportivo de Gimnasia Acalia the following year. In June 2026, the Asociación Canaria de Pole Sport had 85 athletes aged between five and 17.

Fuerteventura is due to host the 2027 Spanish Championship for Pole Sport and aerial disciplines under the POSA international federation, the coach has announced.
