“Fuerteventura Protagonist” Tackles Demographic Challenge Through Seminars
The Fuerteventura Protagonista project, driven by the Island Council’s Department of Citizen Participation in partnership with the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna, continues its Community Methodologies Seminar series (SEMECO) with a new session focused on the demographic challenge.
On October 22, from 17:00 to 19:00, the sixth session—titled “Roots and Future: Communities Facing the Demographic Challenge in Fuerteventura”—will be held. The event aims to equip participants with practical tools and knowledge to tackle the island’s issues of population decline, territorial cohesion, and sustainability.
“Fuerteventura Protagonista is a community project that seeks to encourage citizen involvement in the island’s comprehensive development, promoting spaces for reflection, training, and shared action,” explained Victor Alonso, Island Council’s Councillor for Citizen Participation.
The seminar will be led by José León García Rodríguez, Emeritus Professor of Human Geography at the University of La Laguna and a specialist in water resources in arid environments, with particular reference to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The session will blend expository and demonstrative methods, integrating real‑world experiences and practical examples so participants can apply the acquired knowledge within their own communities.
The training is free of charge and certified by the General Canary Foundation of the University of La Laguna. Attendance must be complete, and participants are required to answer at least two questions posed by the speaker.
