Fuerteventura Senate candidate pledges to seek North–South road funding
PP candidate Esther Hernández Marrero pledges to make road funding a Senate priority. She says 34% of Fuerteventura’s North–South route still needs to be designed and built.
Esther Hernández Marrero has pledged to make funding for Fuerteventura’s roads a priority if elected. She is the Partido Popular candidate for the island in Spain’s Senate.
On 2 November 2026, Onda Fuerteventura reported her call for the national government to get involved. Hernández also called for faster approvals to move the island’s road projects forward.
Her main concern is the Eje Norte-Sur, the 115-kilometre North–South route. Hernández says 34% of the full route still needs to be designed and built.
The project aims to make roads safer and cut journey times for residents and visitors travelling around Fuerteventura. It also aims to improve links between the main freight and passenger ports.
Hernández claimed that the island had faced a serious shortfall in road funding over the past eight years. She blamed Spain’s government and the island’s senator for delays.
The announcement is a campaign pledge to seek funding. It does not confirm new investment or a timetable for construction.
