Fuerteventura stays on pre‑alert for rain as Storm Therese approaches

The Canary Islands Government maintains a preventive stance on the island and urges heightened precautions against possible intense and scattered rainfall

The Directorate General for Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government has updated the weather situation across the archipelago under the Special Civil Protection and Emergency Response Plan for Flood Risk (PEINCA), keeping Fuerteventura in a pre‑alert for rain as the cold low‑pressure system Therese approaches.

Although the flood emergency is currently concentrated on Gran Canaria and several western islands remain on alert, Fuerteventura stays under a preventive scenario because the evolving weather system could produce locally intense and irregular precipitation.

According to information provided by CECOES 112 Canarias, the storm is situated very close to the archipelago, favoring the development of scattered convective cells capable of delivering heavy rain in short bursts, albeit unevenly across the territory.

Authorities advise the population of Fuerteventura to exercise extreme caution, especially in areas prone to water accumulation, ravines, and urban zones with poor drainage, and to avoid unnecessary travel during episodes of heavy rain.

Residents are also reminded to stay informed through official channels and to follow the instructions of emergency services at all times.

The Canary Islands Government will continue to monitor the meteorological situation continuously and does not rule out the implementation of additional measures depending on the storm’s evolution.
