Fuerteventura to Get 30 New Civil Guard Officers

The central government expands the Civil Guard staff in the Canary Islands by 169 officers, adapting the importance of this operation to the islands.

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, announced on Monday from the Government Sub‑delegation in Tenerife that 169 Civil Guard personnel will be incorporated into the archipelago starting this summer. He also indicated that the number of officers assigned to the islands will continue to increase.

In detail, the islands receiving the largest contingents are Tenerife (66 officers) and Fuerteventura (30 officers). They are followed by Gran Canaria (27), Lanzarote (20), La Palma (13), La Gomera (10), and El Hierro (3).

“It is a commitment of the Government of Spain and the Ministry of the Interior to our archipelago. A magnificent piece of news, because it also responds to a demand from local authorities, such as the island councils and municipalities, and therefore we are meeting a need of the Canary Islands,” the minister said in a statement released by the Government Delegation.

Torres emphasized that these officers, who have been on a training period in the Canary Islands since last July, address a need expressed by local administrations, and he reiterated that the number of personnel will keep growing.

Recent reinforcements have also included the appointment of a lieutenant colonel for the Canary Islands zone, a commander for the Neighborhood Company, and a sergeant for the CCRV (security camera system) of the Canary Islands.
