Fuerteventura to get new connection to Madeira this summer
Madeira Will Triple Its Direct Flights with Spain This Summer and Add Links to Four Canary Islands
Madeira Airport will increase its connectivity with Spain during the 2026 summer season, reaching a peak of 24 weekly frequencies in July and August and offering connections to four Canary Islands.
After the usual suspension of direct routes in winter, the connections were re‑activated in April with eight weekly flights, beginning a gradual growth that will remain in operation through October.
Madrid consolidates its role as the main mainland hub for the Portuguese archipelago, registering four to six weekly flights operated by Iberia and Air Nostrum. The mainland offering is complemented by routes from Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia.
Connections with the Canary Islands—Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura—account for a significant share of the total frequency volume, strengthening tourism ties within the Macaronesia region.
Although the Spanish market represents a moderate share compared with other structural markets on the island, airport authorities highlight a growing trend.
During the 2025 summer period, Spain ranked as the fifth‑largest international market by traffic volume for the destination.
This reinforcement of air services responds to a strongly seasonal demand pattern, aimed at meeting the holiday campaign and positioning Madeira as a recurring travel option for Spanish tourists throughout the summer and early autumn.
