Fuerteventura to Host First Canary Islands School Nursing Congress, April
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Health Services Management of the island’s Health Area have signed a general collaboration protocol to organize the I Congress of Canary Islands School Nursing, scheduled for April 10 and 11 in the municipality of Pájara.
The agreement was signed by the island’s Minister of Education and Youth, Adargoma Hernández, and the Director of the Health Area of Fuerteventura, Tomás Marcial Pérez, with the aim of establishing a cooperative framework that will allow the planning and development of this professional gathering.
The congress will bring together school nurses, teachers, health professionals, students, and representatives of the educational community, with the purpose of advancing health promotion in schools throughout the archipelago.
“This initiative represents an important step to strengthen collaboration between education and health sectors and to continue advancing the promotion of healthy habits and student wellbeing,” said Minister Hernández.
The event originates from the initiative of island health professionals who work directly with schools. Its program will combine keynote presentations, round‑table discussions, and scientific communications, as well as activities linked to the Southern School Health Fair.
Key objectives include:
- Reinforcing cooperation between the education and health systems.
- Boosting research in school health.
- Highlighting the role of school nursing as a pivotal figure in prevention, health education, and student care.
The signed protocol also sets the foundations for organizational coordination, professional participation, the definition of the scientific program, and the promotion of the congress, while paving the way for future collaborative efforts in school health across the Canary
