Fuerteventura youth hackathon fills venue ahead of 3 December final
Young people explored ways to protect Fuerteventura’s environment, manage resources and improve tourism on 29 October. Three projects will compete for prizes in December.
A youth technology hackathon in Fuerteventura was full on 29 October 2026. Young people came together to develop ideas to tackle the island’s challenges.
The Cámara de Comercio de Fuerteventura organised the Hackathon Talento Local y Tecnología 2026. It took place at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura.
Three projects reached the final, which will take place on 3 December 2026. The prizes are €500, €300 and €150.
Ideas to tackle the island’s challenges
Teams explored ways to protect the environment and manage resources. They also looked at how to develop the blue economy, which is based on the sea, and worked on new ideas for tourism. The aim was to turn young people’s ideas into practical proposals for use in Fuerteventura.
The programme included five short training sessions led by professionals from different fields. Five specialist mentors helped the teams study problems, develop ideas and design solutions. Each team then gave a short presentation, or pitch, to make the case for its proposal.
Soledad Monzón, the Chamber of Commerce’s second vice-president, attended the opening. Carmen Alonso, the Cabildo’s councillor for New Technologies, also attended.
Final scheduled for December
The final will take place during the Feria de Innovación Aplicada: Soluciones para el Futuro. This is the last event in the chamber’s «Divulgación de la I+D+i» programme.
The October hackathon was the programme’s second meeting. It followed «Ciencia para todos», which brought together 315 schoolchildren in September.
The Canary Islands Government funds the programme through a subsidy from the Agencia Canaria de Investigación, Innovación y Sociedad de la Información (ACIISI). The Cabildo de Fuerteventura and El Talentón worked together on the hackathon.
