Fuerteventura's Citizen Platform for Sustainable Mobility Unveiled Wednesday in Puerto del Rosario
The Citizen Platform for Sustainable Mobility of Fuerteventura (PCXMSF) will hold its public launch on Wednesday, 5 November, at 18:00, at the Centro Polivalente del Charco in Puerto del Rosario.
Constituted on 21 January 2025, the platform brings together individuals and collectives that share a common goal: promoting an accessible, sustainable transport model centred on collective well‑being. Since its inception, it has been developing proposals to encourage public transport, cycling and walking, all within a framework of dialogue and citizen participation.
“We work together for a cleaner, more accessible and sustainable Fuerteventura for everyone,” the PCXMSF states.
During the event the main lines of work and the “Public Transport for All” proposal will be unveiled. The proposal calls for a universal, inclusive, free, 100 % publicly owned system.
Key points of the platform’s agenda include:
- Public transport as a universal human right and the creation of a coordinated Island and Municipal Public Transport System guaranteeing equal access regardless of origin, age, economic situation or gender.
- Safety and gender‑responsive design of transport environments.
- Electrification of guaguas and other public vehicles to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
- Installation of shelters at every bus stop.
- Development of a mobile app providing real‑time locations of island and municipal buses.
The platform stresses that, amid climatic, energy and social crises, it is urgent to prioritise sustainability and the common good, fostering a mobility model that improves quality of life in Fuerteventura through collaboration between administrations and citizens.
The presentation is free and open to the entire public.
