Fuerteventura's Island Therapeutic Pool Starts Full-Scale Operation

The Island Therapeutic Pool of Fuerteventura is now fully operational, establishing itself as a key resource for improving the quality of life of people with dependency and disability on the island.

During a visit, the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, and the Councillor for Social Action, Víctor Alonso, confirmed the launch and highlighted the importance of the service for both users and their families.

In this first phase, the facility serves users of the Cabildo’s Socio‑Health Centers for Dependency and Disability. A gradual incorporation of social‑sector entities working in the field of disability on Fuerteventura is planned for the future.

“This service is valuable not only for the users, but also for their relatives and caregivers, who need respite spaces to balance work and personal life,” said Lola García.

“These are unique facilities in the Canary Islands, integrated into the Island Center for Disability Care in Puerto del Rosario, a complex that already includes an occupational centre, a residence, a day centre and, soon, a mental‑health residence,” emphasized Víctor Alonso.

A Reference Space for Socio‑Health Care

The therapeutic pool is equipped with specialized rehabilitation and wellness features, including:

  • A main pool with a hydraulic lift for people with reduced mobility.
  • Adapted lighting and access systems.
  • A hydrotherapy pool with air beds, massage jets, waterfalls, and therapeutic circuits.
  • Additional amenities such as a sauna, Turkish bath, hydrotherapy showers with thermal variations, and other services aimed at promoting physical recovery and overall well‑being.

The centre is staffed by a professional team comprising technical personnel, activity monitors, cleaning staff, and administrative support, ensuring specialized and high‑quality care.

Upcoming Activities

Following the inauguration, the Cabildo plans to hold an open‑house event in early April for families and users of the socio‑health centres, as well as to launch new complementary activities.

With this new resource, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura strengthens its commitment to comprehensive care for people with disability, consolidating a socio‑health model focused on well‑being, accessibility, and service quality.
