Future Fuerteventura Palace of Justice Realized—In a Model
The Canary Islands Government’s Minister of Presidency, Public Administration, Justice and Security, Nieves Lady Barreto, unveiled today a scale model of the new Justice Palace that will be built in Puerto del Rosario. The project, awarded at a tender price of €55 million, envisions a modern, accessible and functional building that will house all of the island’s judicial units under one roof.
“This is a priority infrastructure for the Canary Executive, and we thank the Cabildo and the capital city council for unlocking a project that has been stalled for years,” Barreto said.
The contract award is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2026, with construction slated to last four years.
Island President Lola García highlighted that the work responds to a long‑standing public demand and will streamline both staff operations and public access to services. In the same vein, Mayor David de Vera of Puerto del Rosario and Juan Luis Lorenzo Bragado, President of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, underscored the importance of inter‑administrative coordination to see the project through.
The new Justice Palace will be erected on a 4,800 m² plot donated by the Cabildo, located between Avenida Juan de Bethencourt, Calle Antonio Espinosa, and Calle Lucha Canaria. The building will comprise six floors – two underground and four above ground – with an approximate usable area of 21,000 m².
- Underground levels: services, parking, archives, police offices, detention cells, and the guard court.
- Ground floor: main entrance and general services.
- Upper floors: Civil Registry, Victim Assistance Office, Public Prosecutor’s Office, courtrooms, various judicial offices, and a reserved space for future expansions.
The model, built at a 1:100 scale, will remain on display in the main hall of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura so that citizens can explore the details of the future building.
