Gaming Day in Lajares, El Matorral, and Morro Jable

Telecentres Gamification Project

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has launched the “Telecentres Gamification” project, a series of video‑game sessions, training courses and tournaments that will take place across the island. Directed by the Council of New Technologies, headed by Carmen Alonso, the initiative will turn telecentres and youth spaces into hubs for digital leisure, creativity and learning linked to video games.

The programme includes:

  • Esports leagues and weekly challenges in titles such as Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart and Fortnite, with a global ranking that aggregates points from every municipality before a final island‑wide showdown.
  • Workshops on video‑game creation using Scratch, Godot and Roblox Studio.
  • Virtual‑reality experiences, competitive board‑games, and digital role‑playing or escape‑room scenarios (e.g., in Minecraft or Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes).
  • Card‑game tournaments for Lorcana and Pokémon TCG, including draft events and a “Gym Leader” mode where each telecentre functions as a gym that players must conquer to earn medals.
  • Retro‑gaming sessions, speed‑run challenges, streaming and content‑creation workshops, plus a system of achievements, merchandising and surprise tournament twists (such as inverted‑control Mario Kart rounds).

First “Gaming Day” Events

As a launch‑pad, the Cabildo is organising several open “Gaming Day” gatherings for young people, families and gaming enthusiasts. The events will blend competitions in Clash Royale, Fortnite, Mario Kart and FC 24 with hands‑on activities like 3‑D‑printing workshops, Pokémon TCG sessions and Roblox Studio labs where participants can design their own games.

Registration and further details are available at cabildofuer.es.

“The project was created to bring video‑game culture to the whole island, using telecentres as modern, dynamic spaces open to the creativity of our youth,” said Carmen Alonso, Councilor of New Technologies.

“We want any boy or girl in Fuerteventura, wherever they live, to have the chance to compete, learn programming, start streaming or simply share their passion for video games in a safe, supportive environment.”

Alonso also urged the community to take part:

“We encourage families, young people and gaming fans to join the Gaming Days in Lajares, Morro Jable and El Matorral; it will be a perfect occasion to discover new activities, team up with other players and show that digital talent can thrive in Fuerteventura.”

Looking Ahead

The schedule for the Inter‑Telecentres Gaming League and the rest of the activities will be expanded over the coming months, culminating in a major island‑wide final that will recognise the participation and effort of every telecentre.

The Council of New Technologies thanks the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario, Pájara and La Oliva for their essential collaboration in launching these inaugural events and bringing the project to the island’s youth.
