Germán Belmonte quits R2 Hotels after 18 years as CEO, citing personal reasons
German is one of the leading figures in tourism management in Fuerteventura, known for his close‑minded approach.
Germán Belmonte, corporate general director of the R2 Hotels chain, announced that “for personal reasons” he is leaving the hotel group after 18 years. In a message posted on social media he described the decision as “highly considered and deliberate” and indicated that he plans to embark on a new professional chapter, according to the specialist tourism magazine Tourinews.
“Belmonte began his career at Princess Hotels, where he worked for more than ten years, overseeing the opening and launch of numerous properties in the Canary Islands (Spain) and Mexico,” explains the tourism‑focused digital outlet.
He joined R2 Hotels in 2008, when the chain was still owned by CORORASA, and witnessed its growth, including the acquisition by the German tour operator Schauinsland in 2016.
“I started this phase with 3 hotels and 180 employees in Fuerteventura, and I close it with 11 hotels and more than 4,000 beds across Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and Mallorca,” he emphasized in his statement.
Belmonte expressed his sincere gratitude to both the Rodríguez family and the Kassner family, owners of CORORASA and Schauinsland respectively:
“Your trust, friendship, support, and loyalty have made my work much easier on every project we have undertaken over the years, especially the latest one, The Lagoon.”
He also dedicated a message of thanks to everyone who has worked with him over the years, including the corporate team, hotel managers, and the more than 800 employees that make up R2’s staff.
“Without your commitment, effort, and hard work we would never have reached the high levels of workplace satisfaction we enjoy, nor would we have made our guests feel at home. This year we even received the international GREAT PLACE TO WORK 2025 distinction,” he highlighted.
