Guerime Reservoir and Marcos Sánchez Pumping Station Boost Water Distribution in the South
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura is driving two key infrastructure projects to guarantee water security and improve supply on the island: the refurbishment and expansion of the Marcos Sánchez Pumping Station and the construction of the Guerime Reservoir, both now in the final stages of execution.
Major works
- Marcos Sánchez Pumping Station – The upgrade, costing €777,500, will optimise pumping capacity and ensure more efficient water transport to the island’s various population centres.
- Guerime Reservoir – A long‑awaited project with an investment of €1,767,852.26. The new head‑reservoir will hold 5,000 m³ of water, split into two tanks, reinforcing the distribution network and providing greater stability for households and businesses in the municipality of Pájara.

With the completion of the Guerime Reservoir and the upgraded Marcos Sánchez Pumping Station, Fuerteventura takes a decisive step toward a more efficient, sustainable, and future‑ready water system.
