He Confesses to Killing His Mother and Dumping Her Remains
Discovery of the Body
The Civil Guard located, on Friday 8 May, the dismembered body of a Belgian woman who had been missing in Corralejo since Monday, 4 May. The command of the Civil Guard confirmed her identity to EFE but declined to give further details while the investigation remains under judicial secrecy.
Arrest and Initial Findings
According to Canarias 7, citing sources close to the probe, the remains were found in the Zurita landfill and the Civil Guard arrested the victim’s son as the primary suspect. The same outlet reported that Judicial Police officers carried out a reconstruction of the events that afternoon, visiting the victim’s home and other locations in Corralejo allegedly linked to the crime.
The Suspect
The detained suspect is Aaron Oosterlink, 22, the son of the deceased, Katty Oosterlink. La Provincia, also quoting investigative sources, says Aaron admitted to killing his mother, dismembering her, and dumping the fragments in garbage bags that were later placed in a container. The newspaper added that the young man suffers from drug‑addiction problems.
“I killed my mother, cut her up, and threw the pieces away in bags,” Aaron allegedly told investigators.
Reconstructed Timeline
- Sunday, 3 May – After spending the afternoon with a friend, Katty Oosterlink returned to her home in Corralejo.
- That same day – Aaron allegedly bought knives and saws from a nearby shop and used them to dismember his mother.
- Later – He is said to have placed the body parts in plastic bags and deposited them in a landfill container.
Security camera footage from the shop reportedly captured Aaron purchasing the tools and the bags later used.
Police Coordination
Police contacted the Cabildo of Fuerteventura on Monday, 4 May, requesting assistance to access the Zurita landfill. EFE reported that the Civil Guard entered the site on Wednesday morning, found the remains on Friday, and that a judicial authority was dispatched to oversee the removal of the corpse.
Last Known Sightings
The investigation places the case’s origin in Corralejo, where Katty Oosterlink was last seen. In an interview aired on Dunas FM on Wednesday, 7 May, her friend Joana recounted that they had been together “on Sunday afternoon at the beach” and that Joana dropped her at home “at 5:30 p.m.” She said she had no further contact with Katty after that.
Joana also mentioned that Katty’s daughter could not locate her either:
“Even her daughter called me asking if I could get in touch with her mother because I couldn’t reach her.”
During that period, relatives, friends and neighbours organized a citizen search in Corralejo, coordinated with the Civil Guard.
Calls for Caution
The interview, conducted by local editor Alfredo Parra, featured pleas from Katty’s circle to avoid spreading rumors.
“First we need official information because, at the moment, we are just looking; we are not looking for anything else,” Joana said.
Another close associate asked for the media to stop publishing “incorrect things,” stressing that it “causes a lot of harm to the family.”
Pending Confirmation
