Hecansa's new pact raises wages and working conditions after a decade without an agreement

The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) announced on Monday that the new collective bargaining agreement for Hoteles Escuela de Canarias (Hecansa) has entered into force. The pact, which covers almost 200 employees across all public‑company sites under the Ministry of Tourism and Employment, brings salary and labor‑condition upgrades after a decade of stagnation.

The agreement will be in effect for four years, with retroactive application from January 1, 2025, following months of negotiations between the company’s management and trade‑union representatives.

Key provisions

  • Updated salary tables reflecting authorized increases from 2014 to 2025, organized by professional groups.
  • Base salary plus two extraordinary bonuses, a vacation allowance, and the possibility of non‑consolidated functional supplements for positions of special responsibility.
  • 35‑hour work week and regulated teleworking arrangements.
  • Paid leave and permits aligned with current legislation.
  • Full wage coverage (100 %) during periods of temporary incapacity.

“With the new agreement, which began negotiations in November 2023 after years without a deal, we are improving the working conditions for all staff and introducing measures that make the sector more attractive to a new generation of professionals,” said Jéssica de León, Minister of Tourism and Employment, in an official statement.

The collective agreement results from talks between Hecansa’s management and the unions UGT, USO, and CSIF. De León thanked the unions for their “commitment and constructive attitude throughout the process” and highlighted the contribution of Paola Plasencia, Hecansa’s delegated director, for her leadership in the negotiations.
