Helicopter Rescues Injured Hiker on Bayuyo Volcano Near Corralejo
A hiker was rescued on Monday by the helicopter of the Canary Islands’ Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) after sustaining a leg injury while trekking the rugged terrain of El Bayuyo in the municipality of La Oliva, according to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES).
Emergency Call
The alarm was received at 12:36 p.m. on Monday, when SOS La Oliva reported locating an injured person in a hard‑to‑reach area. The man had suffered a trauma to his leg, which prevented him from moving on his own.
Rescue Operation
Because of the difficult access, the GES helicopter was deployed. The aircraft lifted the hiker and air‑evacuated him directly to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura. The operation was supported by firefighters from La Oliva, Civil Protection units, and local police officers.
Outcome
The aerial rescue allowed the victim to be safely extracted from a zone inaccessible to ground‑based medical services, ensuring prompt medical attention.
