HiperDino marks its 40th anniversary with the biggest awards ceremony in history

From September 25 to October 22, the HiperDino supermarket chain will run a promotional campaign called “Celebrating 40 Years with You.” The campaign promises more than 400,000 direct prizes, the biggest prize distribution the company has ever offered.

Campaign Overview

The promotion features a catalog of practical and distinctly Canary‑Island items, including:

  • Micro‑fiber towels
  • Notepads
  • “Dinita” toys
  • Pins, parasols, mugs and raffia bags illustrated with traditional Canarian motifs
  • Discount coupons for HiperDino stores and BP fuel vouchers

In addition, the campaign will hold 20 high‑value draws and a grand prize of 10 vouchers worth €4,000 each for purchases. Two exclusive travel‑package experiences will be raffled on HiperDino’s official social‑media channels.

“This year we have made an enormous commitment, not only in the volume of direct prizes – the largest in our history – but also in the care and detail of the products themselves. All items were selected based on our customers’ needs; they are useful, practical, and bear a strong Canarian identity. On this 40th anniversary we want to thank our customers for their loyalty, and we have devoted this campaign to tell them ‘thank you’ for trusting us and supporting local,” said Carlos García, Director of Marketing and Communication.

Weekly Draws Cover All Islands

Each weekly draw (four in total) will award five winners. For example, in the first week there will be one winner from each of the main islands—Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura—and a single winner shared among La Palma, El Hierro, and La Gomera—ensuring island‑wide coverage.

How to Participate

  • One entry per €30 spent in a single purchase.
  • Extra entry if the shopper buys ten or more items listed in any of the promotional flyers released between September 25 and October 22.
  • Participants can choose a digital or physical ticket.

A New Anthem for the Celebration

To accompany the promotion, HiperDino released a new song titled “Hoy quiero darte las gracias” (“Today I Want to Thank You”). Composed by Lisandro Rodríguez and José Almeida, the track is a tribute to employees, long‑time customers, and new shoppers who have chosen HiperDino as their reference supermarket over the past four decades.

About the Composers

  • Lisandro Rodríguez began his career in 2003, creating songs and arrangements for artists, advertising, TV series, musicals, and rock operas. He is known for neoclassical and experimental music, film scores, and has been nominated multiple times for the Jerry Goldsmith Awards and a Goya nomination in 2013 for the documentary “Jacques Leonard, el payo Chac.”

  • José Almeida is a percussionist, producer, and lyricist who has arranged music for numerous regional and national projects. For the past four years he has led the music‑therapy project “Sesión Galerna,” aimed at improving quality of life through sound therapy.

Illustrations by Danihace

Many of the prize items (towels, parasols, raffia bags, mugs, and notepads) feature special illustrations by Daniel Naranjo, known as Danihace. Trained in Design at the Complutense University of Madrid and in Editorial Design at the European Institute of Design, Danihace works from his own studio, creating artwork inspired by Canarian customs and traditions.

Supporting the Canary Islands’ Household Economy

HiperDino’s roots trace back to 1947, when Abraham Domínguez and his wife Esperanza Santana opened an oil‑and‑vinegar shop in the Schamann district of Las Palmas. Their sons José Abraham and Andrés later founded the first supermarket, Hermanos Domínguez, in 1972, and opened the first HiperDino store in Miller Bajo in 1985. After several ownership changes, a group of Canarian shareholders led by the Domínguez brothers and Javier Puga reacquired the chain in 2012, reinstating the low‑price strategy and a strong focus on local products.

Since 1985, HiperDino has become the leading retail chain in the Canary Islands, creating around 10,000 direct jobs. Its competitive pricing, wide selection of top‑brand and fresh‑produce items, and promotion of local goods have driven steady growth. By the end of 2024 the company expanded to Mallorca in the Balearic Islands, operating more than 290 stores under the brands HiperDino, SuperDino, and HiperDino Express, plus four logistics centers, a dark‑store for online orders, and 38 franchised DinoShop locations in partnership with BP. Through the DinoSol Foundation, the group supports employees and community programs.

40 Years of HiperDino: Key Figures

  • First Canarian company in job creation and third in turnover, ranking 11th nationally among food‑distribution chains.
  • Multipliers: €1 of HiperDino’s revenue generates €4.10 of island‑wide income; each job created spawns 3.66 additional jobs; €1 of production yields €1.31 of island‑wide output.
  • According to the OCU price‑watch report (Sept 2024), HiperDino has the largest number of the cheapest stores in the archipelago.
  • Offers over 1,300 monthly promotions, two catalogues per month, “Flying Offers,” “Pelotazos,” and exclusive discounts via its online channel and app.
