Humanitarian Innovation in Gambia Through Fuerteventura Tech Park
Press Release
The Fuerteventura Technology Park attended, on Wednesday 22 April, a project‑presentation event of the Interreg VI‑D Madeira‑Azores‑Canary Islands (MAC) Cooperation Programme with Gambia. The event was organized by the Directorate General for Relations with Africa (DGRA) of the Government of the Canary Islands and took place in Banjul, the Gambian capital.
The day was dedicated to showcasing the seven projects approved in the First INTERREG MAC 2021‑2027 Call, as well as a project approved in the Capitalisation Call. Its overall aim was to give visibility to the various initiatives, create connections among participating entities, and foster collaboration.
The Fuerteventura Technology Park presented AGAMENON, a project aimed at contributing to, supporting the management of, and raising awareness about humanitarian challenges—particularly those linked to the migration of unaccompanied minors along the Atlantic route to the Canary Islands. For this initiative, the Technology Park works in close collaboration with the National Police, the Ministry of the Interior of Gambia, and the National Police of Senegal.
The event, co‑organized with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs of Gambia, was attended by the relevant ministries and institutions involved in the programme, Gambian partners of the various projects, the European Union Delegation, the Spanish Embassy, and other strategic actors.
