Cabildo Approves Strategic Aid Plan for Handicraft Promotion

The Fuerteventura Cabildo plenary unanimously approved today the Strategic Grant Plan for the Promotion and Dissemination of Fuerteventura Handicraft 2026‑2028, which allocates €810,000 in funding over the three fiscal years.

“Handicraft is a strategic sector of high cultural, social and economic value. It is essential to design an aid programme that preserves traditional trades, transmits knowledge between generations, and creates jobs linked to this activity,” said Cabildo President Lola García.

Crafts‑councilor Lolina Negrín explained that the plan is structured around three grant lines aimed at:

• Boosting the competitiveness of our artisans;
• Supporting the sector’s modernization, professionalisation and innovation;
• Facilitating the commercialisation of handcrafted products.

“The plan also helps safeguard a significant part of our island’s intangible cultural heritage,” she added.

Funding Allocation for 2026

• €40,000 earmarked for municipal authorities;
• €100,000 dedicated to the Island Handicraft Fair, promoted by the Antigua City Council;
• €60,000 granted to the Creatives in Fuerteventura Association, alongside a competitive‑application line open to associations, artisans and craftworkers.
