IGN records 131 low‑frequency quakes at Las Cañadas del Teide in three days
This activity does not change the probabilities, so for now there are no indications of short‑ or medium‑term eruptive activity.
The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has logged 131 earthquakes in the vicinity of Las Cañadas del Teide during the last three days, with 33 of them precisely located.
The institute’s director, Ithaiza Domínguez, confirmed the data to Europa Press, explaining that these are low‑frequency events that did not exceed a magnitude of 1.6 and were mostly recorded at an approximate depth of 10 km.
“The important point is that the low‑frequency activity pulses are weaker than those we experienced in early March, and, so far, we have not observed any change. In that sense, the probabilities have not shifted,” Domínguez warned, adding that there are currently no precursor signals of eruptive activity on Tenerife in the short or medium term.
Domínguez also clarified that seismic activity around Las Cañadas del Teide has not completely vanished since last March, noting that “from time to time” the IGN registers small activity pulses.
