Improving Security in La Oliva

The northern municipality strengthens its local police with 12 new officers, reaching 48 active personnel

The City Council of La Oliva held a ceremony on 9 October to inaugurate 12 new members of the Local Police, who officially join the force alongside seven colleagues completing their training period. With these additions, the council takes a decisive step in its commitment to reinforce citizen safety, increasing the force from 31 officers two years ago to 48 active personnel.

“Before this term ends we will reach 60 officers, which will double the staff we had just a few years ago,” said Mayor Isaí Blanco during the ceremony. He emphasized that this progress demonstrates the firm commitment of this council to security, coexistence, and the tranquility of all residents.

Blanco also thanked the municipal staff who made the process possible and expressed gratitude to the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, for her constant support and collaboration.

“This is a day of pride for La Oliva. Not only are we adding new officers, but we are also committing to give them the best tools to work under optimal conditions and with guarantees,” he added.

Councilor for Personnel Alexandra Martín highlighted the administration’s dedication to staffing:

“From the Personnel Council, we maintain our firm commitment to provide this council with the necessary staff to effectively meet the needs of our municipality. We know that behind every public service there are people, and that is why we continue working so that our teams have the right human resources and the best conditions to perform their duties.”

She also noted:

“We celebrate the inauguration of seven new career officials and twelve trainees who join our Local Police.”

Mayor Blanco addressed the new officers personally:

“Being a local police officer is not just wearing a uniform. It is representing La Oliva in every gesture, in every help, in every glance toward a neighbor who trusts you. Today you begin a stage full of responsibility, but also of pride and service.”

The council also announced complementary security upgrades, including the installation of surveillance cameras, the addition of a drone unit and a canine unit, and the reinstatement of UMA agents—part of the governing group’s plan to continue improving public safety in the municipality.

The ceremony, held in the municipal building, was attended by the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, members of the local corporation, and families of the new officers. With this expansion of the police force, the City Council of La Oliva reinforces its commitment to a more modern, approachable, and prepared police service ready for future challenges.
