Installation Begins on Tarajalejo Seaside Promenade Railing
The Cabildo launches a 70‑metre railing on a stretch where the slope toward the beach calls for preventive safety measures.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Service of Works and Machinery and under the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” programme, has started today the installation of a new railing along the Tarajalejo seafront promenade. The work is carried out in coordination with the Tuineje Town Hall. At the same time, the process to build a new access stair to the beach—following the removal of debris from the old one—has begun with the commissioning of the legally required geotechnical study.
Coordination with Local Authorities
“It is important to maintain coordination with the municipalities to carry out improvement actions in infrastructure and environments across the entire island,” said island president Lola García.
Rationale and Expected Impact
The councilor for Works and Machinery, Blas Acosta, highlighted the relevance of the intervention for residents, tourists, and local businesses:
“This railing is another example of the social utility of ‘Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature,’ a programme that undertakes small‑scale actions with a great impact on the quality of life in the area.”
The chosen 70‑metre segment corresponds to the part of the avenue where the height difference between the promenade and the beach reaches at least two metres, making preventive measures against accidental falls essential. The new railing will therefore enhance safety and functionality for pedestrians while respecting the visual harmony of the maritime setting.
Materials and Specifications
- Structure: Stainless‑steel tubes, 58 mm in diameter, with vertical stainless‑steel bars (40 mm wide).
- Height: 1 metre from the pedestrian walkway to the top rail, complying with safety regulations and preserving an unobstructed view of the sea horizon.
- Durability: Materials selected for resistance to the marine environment, ensuring long‑term performance.
Beach‑Access Staircase
The Service of Works and Machinery has also tasked the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” programme with restoring one of the beach‑access stairs that was destroyed by wave action. After the geotechnical study, debris will be cleared and a new staircase will be constructed, improving safe entry to the Tarajalejo beach.
Funding and Timeline
The “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” initiative, overseen by Blas Acosta and implemented by Gesplan, outlines a 15‑month programme (2024‑2025). Over this period, €4 million of the Cabildo’s own funds will be invested in roughly one hundred “proximity actions” that directly:
- Preserve the natural environment,
- Enhance visitors’ perception of the island, and
- Improve the quality of life for residents.
