Island and Technical Hunting Plans Advance with Sector Participation

Press Release – The Cabildo of Fuerteventura continues drafting the Insular Hunting Plan and the Technical Hunting Plan, tools designed to regulate and manage hunting activities while safeguarding wildlife resources and game species across the island.

For the preparation of these plans, the Hunting Department, led by Carlos Rodríguez, has launched a participatory process. This initiative began this week with a series of workshops that “served as dialogue spaces to address issues related to the planning, management, and use of game resources.”

The meetings took place on April 27 and April 28 at the Gran Tarajal Library and the Insular Youth Center, respectively. They aimed to reach interested parties from the southern, central, and northern zones of Fuerteventura. Participants included hunters from across the island, environmental agents, and technical staff from various Cabildo departments and municipal governments.

These sessions enabled the drafting team to gather essential information and hear first‑hand contributions from the involved groups, with the goal of integrating them into the plan‑making process. This marks the initial stage of a procedure that will produce a draft to be refined through further input, leading to the final approval of the documents, expected next year.

“The meeting was well received, and participants showed great willingness,” said Councillor Carlos Rodríguez. “We trust that this process will mark the start of a sustained collaborative working line.”

The collected contributions will be analyzed and evaluated to improve game management on Fuerteventura, ensuring proper land‑use planning and the sustainable use of natural resources.
