Island Council Signs Quality‑of‑Life and Care Agreements with Fuerteventura’s Six Municipalities

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura signed today the biennial agreements on quality of life and dependency, allocating €3,406,821.50 to the island’s six municipalities for the 2025‑2026 period. Managed by the Social Action department, these accords reinforce the island corporation’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable residents.

The signing ceremony was attended by the island’s president, Lola García, the Councillor for Social Action, Víctor Alonso, as well as municipal representatives and technical staff involved in the programmes. Present were the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, the mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, and councilors José Cerdeña (Betancuria), América Soto (Antigua), Kathaisa Rodríguez (Pájara) and Dulce García (Tuineje).

“With the signing of these agreements, amounting to more than €3.4 million, the Cabildo guarantees the quality of services provided to people. This is one of our top priorities as an island institution,” said President Lola García. She also highlighted the work of municipal staff “who attend daily to those who need it most.”

Councillor Víctor Alonso explained that the agreements will enable the hiring of 34 professionals across fields such as psychology, social work, family education, administration, home services, and pedagogy. This reinforcement ensures the implementation of programmes covering basic community social services, assistance to women victims of gender‑based violence, children and families, as well as other emergency social situations.

“Municipalities are the first point of contact for people in greatest need, and that is why we are firmly committed to these agreements,” Alonso added.

In 2024, the cooperation assisted 9,776 people across all municipalities on the island. In the coming days, similar agreements will be formalised with the Centro‑Sur Commonwealth, bringing the total amount earmarked for social welfare in Fuerteventura to nearly €4 million.
