Island EV charging network reaches 22 points

The island’s public EV‑charging network has added four new stations. The new installations consist of three 22 kW medium‑slow chargers located in Antigua (Alcalde Montesdeoca Cabrera Street), Gran Tarajal (Atis Tirma Street) and Costa Calma (Hapag‑Lloyd Avenue), plus a new 50 kW fast‑charging point in Tuineje (Eustaquio Gopar Street, opposite the town hall).

The Cabildo explained that the 22 kW chargers are medium‑slow, meaning they are not suitable for long‑distance “refueling”. Instead, they are intended for stay‑over charging while users run errands or spend time in commercial or leisure areas.

The Tuineje installation, with its 50 kW capacity, shortens waiting times for longer trips.

22 Operational Chargers for Electric Vehicles in Fuerteventura

According to the Cabildo’s updates, the island now hosts 22 operational chargers, distributed as follows:

  • Fast charging (50 kW): Corralejo, Puerto del Rosario, Gran Tarajal, Betancuria, Morro Jable, La Lajita, Pájara, and Tuineje.
  • Medium‑slow charging (22 kW): Corralejo, Lajares, La Oliva, Puerto del Rosario, Pájara, Valle de Santa Inés, Vega de Río Palmas, Morro Jable, Antigua, Gran Tarajal, and Costa Calma.
  • Slow charging (10 kW): Caleta de Fuste and Costa Calma.

Specific locations cited by the Cabildo include:

  • Alcalde Montesdeoca Cabrera Street (Antigua)
  • Atis Tirma Street (Gran Tarajal)
  • Hapag‑Lloyd Avenue (Costa Calma)
  • Eustaquio Gopar Street, opposite the Tuineje town hall
  • Antonio Espinosa Street (Puerto del Rosario)
  • Laural Street (Morro Jable)
  • Sites in Valle de Santa Inés and Vega de Río Palmas (Betancuria)

The public island network is a public initiative promoted by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, with concessions awarded to private companies such as Repsol and Endesa.

A Modern and Accessible Network

“It is important to advance the island’s electric‑vehicle charging network, within this institution’s commitment to the energy transition,” said Lola García, President of the island.

Lolina Negrín, Councillor for Industry, added: “This action improves the infrastructure available for both residents and visitors, reinforcing Fuerteventura’s image as a responsible island adapted to new sustainability demands, while guaranteeing an efficient technical service and a modern, accessible network.”
