Island Hosts the 20th Fuerteventura and Lanzarote Studies Conference
The meeting will take place from September 23 to 26 at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura. This year the organization falls to the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, under the auspices of the Archivo General Insular.
A milestone in the islands’ cultural calendar
Reaching its twentieth edition, the Sessions have become one of the most significant cultural and academic events in the eastern Canary Islands. Initiated in 1984 by the Archivo Histórico de Fuerteventura, the gatherings were created jointly by the Cabildos of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote to address the scarcity of bibliography and limited knowledge about the two islands. They are held biennially, alternating the venue between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
Academic programme
This edition will feature 48 papers covering the fields of:
- History
- History of Art
- Geography
- Language and Literature
- Archaeology
Official comments
“These Sessions are a scientific benchmark in the humanities, contributing to a deeper understanding of the cultural‑historical evolution of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote,” said Rayco de León, Cultural Heritage Councillor of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.
Looking ahead
The Cabildo announced that the full programme will be published soon on the institution’s website.
