Island Therapeutic Pool Operating
The Island Therapeutic Pool is now operating at full capacity, according to President of the Fuerteventura Island Council, Lola García, and Social Action Counselor Víctor Alonso. They visited the facility to verify the management of this essential service, which aims to improve the quality of life and well‑being of users and their families.
In the first phase of the rollout, the pool will initially serve users of the various Socio‑Health Centers for Dependency and Disability managed by the Island Council. A second phase will gradually integrate the broader social network that works in the island’s disability sector.
“This service is valuable both for the users and for their families and caregivers, who deserve a break to balance work and family life,” said President Lola García.
“We are proud to offer this service in facilities located at the Island Center for Disability Care, the only complex of its kind in the Canary Islands,” stated Counselor Víctor Alonso. He added that the center also houses a common area, an auditorium, an occupational center, a residence, a day‑care center for people with disabilities, and a mental‑health residence (recently awarded through a public tender). According to Alonso, the complex is becoming “a benchmark for quality care for people with disabilities.” The delegation was accompanied by Yurena Hernández, representative of the service contractor CLECE S.A.
After completing the necessary adjustments and accessibility improvements, the facilities at the Island Disability Care Complex in Puerto del Rosario are fully operational.
An open‑house day is scheduled for early April, inviting families and users of the socio‑health centers for dependency and disability to experience the pool. Additional complementary activities and actions are also being planned.
