Island Youth Center Turns Two, Hits 500 Registrants
The CIJ has taken stock of its activity as a hub for youth training, creation, and gathering. Two years after opening, the space has hosted events such as Goat Talent, Univerano, Maxo Arte, and the Infernal Youth Center, alongside a continuous programme of creative and educational activities.
The Island Youth Center (CIJ) celebrates its second anniversary as a reference point for the young people of Fuerteventura. Since its inauguration, the centre has surpassed the half‑thousand mark of registered youths and has progressively expanded the use of its facilities.
Located within the offices of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, at Doctor Fleming No. 1 in Puerto del Rosario, the CIJ is part of the Island Youth Plan. It was created as a space dedicated to training, meeting, debate, and youth leisure.
Activities at the Island Youth Center
In the past two years, its rooms have welcomed workshops, meetings of youth collectives, training processes, cultural activities, and associative gatherings. Projects carried out include initiatives such as Goat Talent, Univerano, Maxo Arte, and the Infernal Youth Center, in addition to a continuous programme of creative and educational events.
The centre offers a training classroom, a games and videoconferencing room, a multipurpose hall for multidisciplinary activities, and a recording studio—one of the most requested spaces. Its design and identity were developed with the participation of students from the Fuerteventura School of Art and young beneficiaries of Cabildo scholarship programmes.
“Two years after its opening, the Island Youth Center proves that it was a real need for the island’s youth,” said Adargoma Hernández, Councillor for Education and Youth. “Our goal is for the CIJ to keep growing as a driver of opportunities and for its programme to reach every municipality.”
“It is essential to keep creating spaces that allow us to develop inclusive and innovative youth policies adapted to the reality of Majorero youth,” emphasized Lola García, President of the Cabildo.
During this period, the CIJ has become a hub for active participation and personal development for hundreds of young people in Fuerteventura, steadily expanding its offer and tailoring its proposals to the concerns of new generations.
