Italian Fisherman Critical After Sea Surge Hits Lanzarote

Emerlan coordinated the rescue, which included a helicopter, Mike India 21 and immediate medical attention

A 27‑year‑old Italian fisherman is in critical condition after being swept away by a sea surge in the Los Charcones area of Playa Blanca. The incident occurred around 15:50 when the man fell into the sea while fishing alongside a companion, who managed to get out on his own despite sustaining several injuries.

The alert was received by CECOES, prompting an immediate large‑scale rescue operation. Participants included firefighters, Civil Protection, the Yaiza Local Police, the Civil Guard, resources from the SUC, an emergency jet ski, and a maritime rescue boat. A helicopter conducted multiple searches until the missing fisherman was located. The entire operation was coordinated and carried out by Emerlan.

The critically injured fisherman was rescued by the Mike India 21, and medical personnel began resuscitation maneuvers on the beach. After stabilizing him, he was evacuated in a medicalized ambulance to Hospital General José Molina Orosa, where he continues to receive specialized care.

His companion, also 27, was taken by ambulance to the Playa Blanca Health Center for treatment of his injuries.

The operation was deemed successful thanks to the rapid coordination among all involved teams, highlighting the contributions of Emerlan, the helicopter, the Mike India 21, and the collaboration of firefighters, Civil Protection, Local Police, the Civil Guard, and SUC.
