José David Herrera Assumes Presidency of Fuerteventura's Central South Community
The mayor of Tuineje, José David Herrera Ginory, has taken over the Presidency of the Intermunicipal Consortium of the Central‑South of Fuerteventura, succeeding the mayor of Betancuria, Enrique Cerdeña Méndez.
During this new term, Tuineje will head an entity that brings together the municipalities of Antigua, Betancuria, Pájara and Tuineje, with the aim of continuing to improve the public services delivered jointly.
“I reaffirm my commitment to maintain the work lines already established, especially in areas such as the youth team, the municipal dog shelter and the Day Center for Psychosocial Rehabilitation,” Herrera said in his first address as president.
He also stressed the need to strengthen communication of the Consortium’s services and to achieve greater coordination among the municipalities to provide more effective and closer assistance to citizens.
The new president thanked Enrique Cerdeña for his work during the previous mandate, highlighting the latter’s dedication while leading the entity over the past year.
Cerdeña, in turn, presented a balance of his administration, emphasizing several initiatives:
- Training programmes for professionals working with minors.
- Organisation of sessions on the management of feline colonies and control campaigns across the municipalities.
- Improvements made to the Municipal Dog Shelter of La Pared.
- Advances in transparency and internal organisation.
Among other achievements, he pointed out the creation of negotiation tables aimed at enhancing the Consortium’s functioning, resulting in the drafting of key protocols such as:
- A procedure for addressing workplace harassment.
- A regulation governing teleworking.
- An updated catalogue of job positions.
With this leadership transition, the Intermunicipal Consortium of the Central‑South of Fuerteventura embarks on a new phase focused on continuity, the improvement of public services, and the strengthening of collaborative work among local administrations.
