Josefa Travieso Named SCS Top Professional in Fuerteventura Health Area

The Health Department of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Canary Health Service (SCS) and the Canary Islands Health Research Institute recognized, on Thursday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the excellence of professionals and research projects from the archipelago in the second edition of the Canary Awards for Health Sciences and Biomedical Research. Among the laureates is the Majorcan Josefa Travieso, distinguished as the Best SCS Professional in the Fuerteventura Health Area.

Travieso, governor of the General Hospital of Fuerteventura, has accumulated more than forty years of service at the centre. Since its opening in 1982 she has led the Food Service area, overseeing the planning, preparation and daily delivery of menus for patients, as well as coordinating special meals on designated days. The article highlights her commitment and passion in a vital yet often unseen role that contributes to the well‑being of users.

The award falls under the Best SCS Professional category, which honours staff from all the islands for their clinical work, dedication to excellence and human quality. In total, eleven professionals were distinguished in this edition, including doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and management profiles.

The prizes also spotlight projects and initiatives in research, innovation, humanisation, care and advanced therapies, aiming to “highlight the professional work of the honoured individuals, as well as the dedication of the SCS staff to the continuous improvement of the health of the Canary population,” the organisers explained.
