Juan Martín Guerra donates pre‑Hispanic ceramic to Betancuria’s MAF
The Archaeological Museum of Fuerteventura (MAF) will host, on Thursday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m., the presentation of a donation made by Mr. Juan Martín Guerra. The gift consists of a ceramic piece of great patrimonial value that belongs to the culture of the pueblo majo, the ancient inhabitants of the island.
This notable addition marks the return to Fuerteventura of an archaeological artifact of singular importance. It will become part of the collections safeguarded by the MAF, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to the conservation, research, and dissemination of the island’s historical heritage.
The piece, considered unique both for its typology and its exceptional decorative motifs, provides an important material testimony of the aboriginal Majorero culture. It contributes to the understanding of the daily life, traditions, and material expressions of the pueblo majo. In this regard, one of the MAF’s core missions is to locate and recover cultural heritage from the pueblo majo that is scattered across other museums and private collections, so it can be studied and catalogued.
The presentation ceremony, which will be attended by the donor Juan Martín Guerra, will highlight the value of citizen collaboration in heritage protection as well as the role of public institutions in safeguarding and promoting it.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Archaeological Museum, invites the public to attend this event, which represents another step forward in the recovery and valorisation of the island’s historic legacy.
