Juntos por Pájara reaffirms support for fishermen amid new regulations
Juntos por Pájara (JXP) has publicly voiced its backing for the municipality’s fishing sector following the approval of a new regulation that, according to the organization, fails to reflect the reality of the industry and ignores the specific characteristics of its various zones and traditional fishing methods.
JXP points out that fishermen remain mobilised because they view the approved regulation as a “patch” that does not address the structural problems affecting their activity.
The political formation says it will continue to support the collective until a “fair, consensual and adapted” regulation is promoted—one that truly meets the sector’s real needs.
Commitment to Sustainable Fishing
JXP reminds that local professionals, especially those linked to the Cofradía de Pescadores de Morro Jable, have demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability by voluntarily removing gear such as nasas, palangres, and atarrañas to ensure a responsible and lasting fishing model.
The formation argues that this effort must not be undermined by regulatory decisions that are detached from the day‑to‑day realities of the sector.
It also assures that it will back the collective’s demands provided the protests remain peaceful, expressing readiness to accompany fishermen in any necessary démarches at both the national and European levels.
Ongoing Dialogue
The organization highlights that contact with the patrón mayor (the senior authority) has been maintained continuously, underscoring its commitment to dialogue and close cooperation with the fishing sector of Pájara.
Juntos por Pájara concludes by reaffirming its dedication to stand alongside fishermen in defending their interests and seeking consensual solutions.
