La Lajita to Get New Water Treatment Plant

The authorization will maintain a production capacity of 600 m³ per day and reserve space for a future expansion up to 1,200 m³.

The Governing Board of the Island Water Council of Fuerteventura (CIAF) has approved the authorization for the expansion and improvement of the wastewater treatment plant located in the La Lajita area, within the municipality of Pájara.

The facility currently has a production capacity of 600 cubic meters per day, ensuring water supply for the local population and activities. The project also reserves additional space for a future expansion to 1,200 cubic meters per day, anticipating the expected urban and demographic growth of the locality.

“It will facilitate the approval of new licenses pending at the Pájara City Council, as well as the reuse of the water cycle,” said island president Lola García, highlighting the new construction as a key component for water services in the southern part of the island.

The authorization granted by the CIAF sets a maximum operational period of 15 years for the plant, aligning with the estimated service life of the infrastructure.
