La Oliva adds 12 officers, reaching 48 active local police.
The La Oliva Town Hall celebrated on Wednesday, 9 October, the swearing‑in ceremony of 12 new Local Police officers, together with 7 career officials who have completed their internship period.
With these additions, the force now totals 48 officers, up from the 31 it had at the start of the current mandate. Mayor Isaí Blanco said the goal is to “reach 60 officers before the legislature ends,” a move that would “double the staff compared to just a few years ago.”
In his speech, Blanco thanked “the effort of municipal staff that has made this process possible,” praised the support of Fuerteventura Island Council president Lola García, and noted that the ceremony “reflects the Town Hall’s commitment to security, coexistence and the tranquility of the municipality.”
Councilor for Personnel Alexandra Martín added that her department “remains committed to providing the Town Hall with the personnel needed to effectively meet the municipality’s needs.” She emphasized, “Behind every public service there are people, and that’s why we continue working so that staff have the right human resources and the best working conditions.”
“Being a local police officer is not just about wearing a uniform. It’s about representing La Oliva in every gesture, every help, every look toward a neighbor who trusts you. Today you begin a stage filled with responsibility, but also with pride and service.”
— Isaí Blanco
Blanco addressed the new officers, reminding them of “the responsibility and pride of representing La Oliva in every gesture and every assistance to citizens.” The ceremony was attended by institutional representatives and the officers’ families. According to the Town Hall, the personnel boost will allow the force to move toward a “more modern and close‑to‑the‑community Local Police.”
Environmental and canine unit, and surveillance cameras
The Town Hall also announced that the staff expansion complements other public safety measures, such as the installation of surveillance cameras, the creation of a drone unit, a canine unit, and the reinstatement of agents from the UMA (Environmental Unit). These actions are part of the security plan launched during the current legislative term.
