La Oliva brings young talent and local cuisine to Madrid Fusión 2026
The municipality of La Oliva accompanied chef Borja Cabrera and reinforced the promotion of zero‑kilometer products at one of the country’s premier gastronomic congresses.
The municipality of La Oliva was present at Madrid Fusión 2026, one of Spain’s most prestigious culinary congresses, to showcase local products and Majorero gastronomic talent. The initiative was a joint effort by the La Oliva Town Hall and the Island Tourism Board.
From Monday, 26 January, the town hall participated in the event alongside chef Borja Cabrera of Restaurante El Horno, aiming to display the richness of local cuisine on a top‑level platform. The official delegation included Mayor Isaí Blanco Marrero and Commerce Councilor Alexandra Martín, who endorsed the action as an investment in local identity and the economy, according to the municipality’s press release.
During his presentation, Chef Cabrera offered a menu that reinterpreted traditional Fuerteventura flavors through a contemporary lens. The dishes featured:
- An appetizer of scalded gofio
- A main course of stewed Majorera goat
- A dessert of gofio foam
These items highlighted emblematic island products.
“Supporting our restaurants and chefs is a way to boost local economic development. El Horno exemplifies how traditional cuisine can evolve without losing its essence, bringing La Oliva’s flavors to a national and international audience,” – Mayor Isaí Blanco (municipal communiqué).
“Gastronomy is a key tool for promoting tourism in Fuerteventura. Being present at events of this magnitude allows us to position our local products—such as Majorera goat and gofio—and strengthen the island’s image as a high‑quality food destination,” – Tourism Councilor Marlene Figueroa (Cabildo of Fuerteventura).
“La Oliva’s presence at Madrid Fusión offers a unique opportunity to showcase our gastronomy and the high level of professionals we have in the municipality. Backing Borja Cabrera and a restaurant as representative as El Horno means investing in our traditions and Majorero youth talent,” – Commerce Councilor Alexandra Martín.
Through this participation, the La Oliva Town Hall and the Island Tourism Board reaffirmed their commitment to promoting local cuisine, zero‑kilometer products, and young talent as defining elements of the municipality’s identity.
