La Oliva continues to champion sport at FITUR with premier ambassadors

Following the success of the initiative at the previous edition of FITUR, La Oliva is expanding the sunny, beach‑side, active‑lifestyle image of northern Fuerteventura both inside and outside IFEMA, featuring elite athletes such as Olympic champion Ruth Beitia, national rugby player Manu Moreno and the Madrid Rugby Titans, among others, at the popular ‘Sneakz’ store run by YouTuber Byre.

Sport has become a way of life in La Oliva. Newly renovated facilities, year‑round sporting events and an unrivalled landscape are just a few of the reasons the municipality is chosen not only by locals but also by visitors to Fuerteventura for physical activity. Under this premise, the Town Hall of La Oliva, through its Sports Department headed by Gleiber Carreño, promotes a vision that goes beyond sun and beach, placing sport at the heart of the municipality’s development.

In 2025 the municipality made its debut at FITUR, showcasing the northern town to the international tourism sector with the first official presentation at FITUR Sports and an event focused on recruiting sporting ambassadors who embody the unique charm of the island’s north.

Building on that success, La Oliva’s Sports Department is once again centering its promotion around a FITUR‑related event—this time held outside IFEMA. The aim is to continue the strategy set last year by attracting high‑profile athletes and personalities from the national and international scene, such as Olympic gold‑medalist Ruth Beitia, rugby star Manu Moreno, and teams like the Madrid Titans and Megavoltios Club, all meeting at Byre’s ‘Sneakz’ store to become ambassadors of the municipality’s lifestyle.

“For another year we want to make the most of the annual FITUR gathering, which is why we decided to keep the event outside IFEMA. The sport‑tourism duo remains one of our main attractions, and by recruiting sport ambassadors we aim to reach audiences we haven’t been able to engage with traditional promotion,” said Isaí Blanco, mayor of La Oliva.

“Beyond the usual poster presentations and interviews inside IFEMA, we are using the FITUR platform to promote the destination to a more specialized audience. This meeting aims to showcase La Oliva’s sport scene in a different light, seeking new ambassadors for the physical activities that thrive in our municipality and thereby expanding our sporting appeal to both national and international visitors,” explained Gleiber Carreño, councilor for Sports.
