La Oliva earmarks €4.1 million to renovate 138 homes in El Cotillo
138 homes in the fishing village of El Cotillo are part of the Neighbourhood‑Level Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) launched by the La Oliva Town Hall. The programme, budgeted at €4.1 million, aims to carry out a series of renovations and rehabilitation actions, as explained by municipal officials during a meeting with local residents.
The planned improvements include:
- Restoration of façades and roofs
- Replacement of exterior joinery with more energy‑efficient units
- Renewal of sanitation, plumbing and electrical installations
- Enhancement of accessibility and the integration of renewable energy systems into thermal installations
According to the town hall’s statement, the objective is to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact while also addressing issues such as leaks and dampness.
The works will be cost‑free for homeowners, following the model recently applied in the Old Town of Corralejo. Funding is divided as follows:
- €2.4 million contributed equally by the La Oliva municipality and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura (€1.2 million each)
- €1.8 million provided by the State through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, using European funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – Next Generation EU
“More accessible and sustainable conditions in El Cotillo”
“Through the rehabilitation of the Old Town of Corralejo and the El Cotillo neighbourhood we are taking a step forward in housing policy for the municipality. We are not only improving the quality of life of our neighbours with more accessible, sustainable and environmentally‑respectful conditions, but we are also refurbishing existing buildings before constructing new ones,” said Mayor Isaí Blanco.
“We continue the ERRP meetings to explain to residents of both towns what the housing improvements will entail. From the European Funds Office we are making it possible to launch such an important project for our municipality, which not only enhances the image of our towns but also brings a noticeable improvement in the quality of life of the area’s inhabitants,” added Councilor for Finance and Revenue Juan José Rodríguez.
